Hidden Treasures

They say you can tell about a person's life by looking at their Bible. I bought each of the kids a Bible when they learned to read, and I smile as I remember... the beauty of homeschooling was being there at that "Aha" moment when they realized they were reading! Each one with a different method, at a different pace, different ages, but the same reward - a Big Bible of their own, which they treasured! Timothy specifically requested thumb tabs so he could find verses faster (he was always in a hurry!). Through years of use, the pages were falling out and the spine had cracked - but there's nothing more beautiful to this mama's heart. A treasure, indeed.

I hadn't explored it before. It seemed like an intrusion into a personal space between Timothy and his God. But I can't describe the healing peace I have found here, reading how God shaped Timothy's life with the highlighted verses from the beginning to the end.

As I leafed through the curled, messy pages, one of the first things I noticed was this highlighted verse in Revelation: "and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."

It's been four years today since Timothy moved to his new home. He is now experiencing that verse he highlighted in his Bible - no sorrow, no tears, and no death. Can you imagine?! The tears still fall on this side of the river, but not without hope.

Not without hope.

Thank you, Lord, for the gift of Timothy. Thank you for the trail he left behind. Help me to live well and finish well as I hang on to that same hope that Timothy was hanging on to; knowing the best is yet to come!

In the name of Jesus, the Living Word, Amen.

"He sent His Word and healed them..." Psalm 107:20
